A junior high student walking to school managed to escape from an abduction attempt, school officials say.
The Kingwood Middle School student told Houston Police the incident occurred around 8:15 a.m. as he walked near Woodland Hills Drive at Lake Hills Drive. That’s when he says two men driving by stopped and approached him, attempting to force him into their car at knife point.
Police say the boy managed to run away and call a parent, who notified police.
The suspects are described as caucasian and in their mid 20’s. Their vehicle was identified as a dark, four-door sedan.
The case is under investigation by Houston Police, and anyone with information is encouraged to call Houston Police Juvenile Division at 713-731-5335.
In a letter home to parents, Kingwood principal Bob Atteberry said everyone can learn from the incident.
“News like this reminds us of the importance of teaching stranger-danger rules to our children,” said Atteberry. “Now would be a good time for you to review the following with your family.”
The school encourages children to walk in groups, report strange activity to adults, never talk to strangers, don’t panic in an emergency, arrange for immediate access to neighbors and other trusted adults, and tour your child’s route to identify dangerous places.
Officials say you can report any suspicious behavior to 911 and the Humble ISD Police at 281-641-7900 (weekdays) or at 281-541-3555 (after-hours).
